Privacy Policy

noBBCtube is an independent website operated by James Van Aalst. It uses YouTube API Services to help you discover recorded videos with channel-based BBC filtering. No noBBCtube account or Google sign-in is needed.

YouTube and Google

Search text and requested video or channel IDs pass through our server to the YouTube Data API. Public video and channel metadata is cached briefly to reduce repeat requests. Playing a video loads YouTube’s embedded player directly; YouTube receives connection and playback information and may use cookies or similar technologies. Channel images and thumbnails also load from Google/YouTube servers.

Google handles that information under the Google Privacy Policy. Use of the player is also subject to the YouTube Terms of Service. noBBCtube does not receive your Google password or import your Google watch history or subscriptions. If you have granted access to other Google-connected apps, you can review them in Google account permissions.

Data saved on this browser

Followed-channel choices (up to 20), Watch later choices (up to 100), and selected interests stay in browser local storage. They do not create YouTube subscriptions and do not sync between devices. Locally cached video and channel names, images and other metadata expire after 30 days unless refreshed. Saved IDs remain your local choices and are checked again when requested.

Optional learning uses foreground playback to maintain broad topic scores, channel preferences and up to 100 recently watched video IDs on this browser. Recent IDs expire after 30 days; scores fade and reset after 30 days without learning. This viewing record is not uploaded to our server. Suggested topic names can be sent through the search API. These preferences and rankings are generated by noBBCtube, not supplied as YouTube recommendations.

Visits and operational data

Our counter stores an aggregate number of page visits and the date counting began. It includes repeat visits and is not a count of unique people. The counter stores no IP address, cookie, visitor identifier or viewing history. Requests necessarily reach our hosting providers, OpenAI Sites and Cloudflare, which may process IP addresses, request headers and operational logs under their own policies. Short-lived in-memory IP-based request throttling helps limit abuse; it is separate from the visit counter. We do not sell personal information.

Delete or reset your data

Unfollow a channel, remove a saved video, or clear learned data in Personalise Home. You can delete all noBBCtube preferences on this browser using the button below, or clear this site’s storage in your browser settings. Removing our local data does not delete data held by YouTube or Google; use their account settings to manage that data.

Donations and contact

Optional donations can be made through James’s Buy Me a Coffee page. That service handles any donation information under its own policies; noBBCtube does not collect payment-card details. You can use the contact options on that profile for privacy enquiries. Visiting this page does not load a donation widget.
